Ingredients:

  • 1 block of firm tofu
  • 1 cup of chopped mushrooms
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon of grated ginger
  • 1 head of lettuce, leaves separated
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional toppings: chopped green onions, sesame seeds, sriracha

Instructions:

  1. Press the tofu: Place the block of tofu between two plates with a heavy object on top to press out excess water for about 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the filling: In a skillet, heat some oil over medium heat and add the diced onion. Cook until translucent, then add the minced garlic and grated ginger.
  3. Add the chopped mushrooms to the skillet and cook until they release their moisture and start to brown.
  4. Crumble the pressed tofu into the skillet and mix well with the vegetables.
  5. Season the filling with soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 2-3 minutes to let the flavors meld together.
  6. Assemble the lettuce wraps: Spoon some of the tofu and mushroom filling onto a lettuce leaf. Top with chopped green onions, sesame seeds, and a drizzle of sriracha, if desired.
  7. Enjoy your delicious and healthy mushroom and tofu lettuce wraps!
